Reviews well, where to begin. since I last saw O.A.R. almost 2 years ago, I have moved from the O.A.R. friendly northeast to the hardly anyone knows them land of Texas. But it is my hometown, so I can't knock them....they are still learning! haha So therefore, they don't play here much (i think this was their first time in austin in 3 years?) so I was STARVING for O.A.R. and they did not disappoint. This crowd was HYPED, too. It was probably 2,000 strong, but what they lacked in numbers, they brought in spirit and energy, and the band was definitely loving it. I would put this crowd up against even the first MSG show....it was a bad ass crowd! (see what not playing a town for so long will do to an audience?) I knew from the moment they opened with "the wanderer" that this was going to be a good night. Not particularly one of my fav opening numbers, but definitely a throwback to the old school, and I always appreciate that. This band never ceases to amaze me when it comes to reinventing songs. Even ones that you wouldn't expect like "Love and Memories" (the closer of the night) which had a great improv verse, "I feel home" which tagged "redemption song" by bob marley, and "poker" which tagged "black rock." also, something happened during poker that I had never seen before. During the first guitar solo, the crowd kept repeating the "i say of, you say a...etc etc" part over and over until it got louder and louder and eventually the band used it as part of their jam for that part of the song....it was a pretty cool moment. Just overall I was really happy with the set....no new songs or covers, sadly, but everything was solid. Just a great show. Hopefully this time, they won't wait so long to come back. They really seemed to love it here. Side note, I met Jerry and Benj before the show. It's so funny how they are always in the crowd and no one ever notices them. They were really gracious, as always. A fun night in South Texas! -sweartoyoutrue May 1, 2008
WOW, is all i can say. Ive been listening to O.A.R. for about two years now when i discovered them opening for DMB in Houston. Like mentioned by others there were 2000 or so people at stubbs but it was like there was 10,000. EVERYONE there was into the music and the band was on top of their game. There was a lady next to me that was talking about how she was there cause her husband liked the band, and at the end of the concert she was speechless on how impressed she was. i have to say...so am i. I hope AUSTIN becomes a familiar trip for the band in the future. JUST WOW. -erice45 May 3, 2008
