Reviews wow....ummm..what was that?
OAR usually gets better every time I see them...Kind of embarrassing for the home crowd. What were they thinking playing 7 new songs.
The highlight was Michael Paris and his triangle chimes..hhaha... -blackrock5 July 30, 2006
veryyyyyy dissapointing compared to last year's merriweather.... concert started out great but then it hit daylight and went all downhill, except for an hour ago, i'm also hating these two song SOAS encores -OldManTime55 July 30, 2006
also dissapointed. the only curveball was michael paris on the triangle -rytzlax28 July 30, 2006
Solid setlist. Great energy. Best time. -truth2034 July 30, 2006
Unlike the previous, I thought the setlist was a good mix of both NEW & OLD!! The energy was great and I was glad to be part of the sold out home crowd! Solid roots and new collaboration. Can't wait to see you in NC~ :)
-oarlovernva July 30, 2006
I don't think 7 new songs out of 18 is a bad thing.

I had a great time at the show. The energy was good overall, especially when you consider how many shows they played in the days leading up to it. Including playing the night before...and the night after! I'd have liked to have seen them play for 15k people a little better rested. They are overbooked. Still to me they seemed to be really enjoying themselves and the crowd was really into it.

Highlights for me were About An Hour Ago, Mr. Brown, and Heard the World.

Though I almost couln't have asked for a better set list, I'd rather hear them play Sunday Bloody Sunday instead of the Elvis Costello song.

EDIT: reading on, I think some of you were affected by the heat :) I do think however that the energy trailed off big time after About An Hour Ago. And of course the recording doesn't sound as good as SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN PROFESSIONALLY MIXED!!! What were you thinking ;) -Hath72 July 30, 2006
Not a bad show, my only gripe was the fact that they closed with Love and Memories which is my least favorite song I think they have ever recorded. Last years Merriweather was a little bit better. -the_ox July 30, 2006
A lot of energy!!! WTF is with singing Elvis Costello? I think they have enough great songs that they do not have to sing other bands stuff. About An Hour Ago was off the hook!!! Great show best they have been in a while. -susini1 July 30, 2006
Rocking show. They played almost straight through. Talked for a total of 5 minutes. Jammed hard, WTD is bad-ass. Long great show! Paris chime- enough of it, its a joke, people are not happy with SOAS songs and I don't understand why. EVERY band plays new songs and their new CD is probably their best "work" yet. One Shot, WD, 52-50, HTW, Lay Down I mean these are great tunes especially live. This was my 23rd show and was in my top 5 or 6. -tindawg31 July 30, 2006
We sat in the back of the pavilion and couldn't understand a single word they were saying. Good thing I have all the lyrics memorized. Last year's Merriweather show was MUCH better. -BlckrckMD July 30, 2006
i have to agree with oarlovernva, i have seen these guys 10 times over the past years and this was by far, in my opinion, their best show yet. Great mix of new and old, and jammed out HARD. Couldn't have asked for a better show, well done, 9.8/10.

Highlights were opening with city on down, 52-50, and heard the world. Every song was killer though. What show were these other guys watching? I personally enjoy changing up the setlist and giving a little variety to the show.

ALSO, if anyone has a recording of this show, i would love to have it, thanks! -belairMD July 30, 2006
That was my 26th show... The highlights for me were 52-50, black rock and about an hour ago. Another highlight was when Marc pointed out my naked sign. Damn them for not playing it, haha. Not the best o.a.r. show I've seen but not the worst either... -phelps154 July 30, 2006
I was a little disapointed, i could have heard sunday bloody sunday instead of elvis costello. I was hoping they would throw a total surpise song in there too.. im always praying to hear conquering fools live.

i think i must have been sitting by you, phelps154, because we were right next to the naked sign! lol. -slwittich July 31, 2006
this is my 10th o.a.r. show and this was by far the worst I have ever seen them. They had no energy and never got into it.. It was almost like they discussed before to take it easy with this show. Mark didnt seem to care.. What a shame knowing this is the closest venue to their home town.. The setlist was good but they played every song slowly and with no energy... Very disapointing. -dbalot July 31, 2006
The show was alright. I was sitting 2nd row, center stage. I thought I Feel Home, About An Hour Ago, City On Down, Black Rock, Heard The World, and About Mr. Brown were solid. Encore was weak. I'm not sure how I would feel about this show if I was out on the lawn. -MattJG123 July 31, 2006
Solid show. Jack's was a great opening band. I would've loved to have seen them play more older songs from Soul's Aflame -Halavaz12 July 31, 2006
great show, loved the old songs with the new...hour ago and feel home. i was in the lawn and thought the energy was great, really had a blast. cant wait for the next show.

jack's was a great opening band -ruggs14 July 31, 2006
Weak setlist, Feel like some of the old stuff is getting lost. For being so close to "home" not impressed. -bubbaco2001 July 31, 2006
I thought it was a fabulous show. There were plenty of new songs and old songs! They were close to home and played 'I feel home' and 'black rock.' What more can you ask for? -birdsofprey02 July 31, 2006
I thought the show was great! You could tell the guys were real excited to play for their families... who i was sitting right near and were SO freakin cute and proud of their sons/bfs/husbands/brothers etc. I think they could have played a few more rare songs but dont we all wish that? They did a good job of mixing up the setlist.
And ya.. i'm totally awaiting the day I hear conquering fools live... and for the guy who wanted them to play Naked... THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SICK...but they've RETIRED it? booo to that! -Niccy11 August 1, 2006
Some of these reviewers have no clue waht they are talking about. This was probably the worst show I've seen out of 8? I agree -- Marc just didn't seem to care to be there. Setlist was fine. City on Down was a disappointment, and I thought Hey Girl was absolutely terrible. Listen to this show when its available and compare it to 34th and 8th or Anytime Now, and you'll see that they weren't having fun and "jamming out" as some of the people here seem to believe. -SportsME23 August 2, 2006
This was my first show and I loved it. Can't wait till my next show, some of the mics didnt sound great but the feeling was great! -OarSUfan August 2, 2006
I've seen them 4 times in concert in the past 2 years. This was a poor show, not as bad as at hersheypark this summer which was pathetic but it still was lacking. The energy was a bit down and they're playing a few too many new songs. Overall I can't cut on the show too badly but it definately could have been much better for the home crowd. Starting the show with city on down seemed to get the crowd excited but after risen it seemed to mellow out. My highlights were 52-50 which seems to be better each time and About an Hour Ago. Oh well, maybe too much touring as somebody said, which has lead to some complacentcy. Either way still a good night, and hope to hear more of their older stuff in the future. -ncstate1224 August 4, 2006
They definatly need to stop with the new crap. Last Years Merriweather was awsome and was pissed that this one didnt compare. But lets talk about the opener for a second, they played Tom Petty's American Girl and I thought I was the only one that knew the song in the whole damn place. Everyone was just standing around talking does anyone have any music knowledge or good taste anymore. -parrotisla August 9, 2006
My first O.A.R. concert awesome expierence the people were awesome I was rocking so hard to Poker I was going nuts I felt such a vibe from this show more than anyother concert I had been to before. I cant wait for them to come back this year. -HawksPokerGame February 28, 2007
I don't know why everyone was hating on this show so much. It was the first O.A.R. show I have been to where they headlined. I thought the concert was amazing. Great show guys. -catdog8303 September 25, 2008
