Reviews OK...first off awesome venue. Despite it was clearly over capacity and tough to get around seeing them in such an intimate venue was incredible. I have been following OAR since 2001 and this is my 11th show and I must say it was one for the books. Since it is impossible to gauge shows based on the first MSG show in 06' I take each one as its own. They opened with Poker. This is not something that happens often and I told those I was with we were in for a special treat tonight. I'm glad they brought Program Director back into the rotation as it is a fun song live and the horns definitely help it. The band was tight. While we all know OAR songs share very similar guitar progressions the band provides a special energy and has great fans. The vibes inside the Bowery Ballroom were sick. Ladanday sounded great. Right on Time always fun. 11 shows and I FINALLY got Old Man Time live, was awesome. Then they did Road Outside Columbus, what a fricking treat! While I don't love King and I will always been partial to the oldies GBWS sounded good. Marc has such a unique voice and over the years he really has improved his voice it is fantastic. So Moved On is a very special song to me and I loved it. They did the newish intro to About and Hour Ago which was sick. While I won't hit each song as this review is getting long I have to say hearing the complete version of Delicate Few was awesome. Dakota which used to e a bit of a light up song or go grab a drink song took on a new life in such an intimate venue and being in the city where John Lennon was killed. City on Down was fantastic. I was literally right next to the stage and created a little room by some hardcore dancing. After about an hour or so we moved upstairs which had some more breathing room. The band was smiling, having fun, and just feeding off the intimate yet loud and excited crowd. These extended stay shows are special. I also must note that the band has really improved musically. The solos are tighter and they are more experimental. OAR is not a true jam band but they certainly are talented musicians. Again, this is my favorite band that I have been following for close to 12 years since I was 14 years old. I love their music and love their shows. The crowd was actually a little older which was nice to see. A lot of times you get way too drunk kids passed out in their seats or on a set of stairs. This had more of an after work (as I work in Midtown and changed at the office, went to dinner, then happy hour, then the show) and it was really cool. Cheers to the Bowery Ballroom for cool security and hosting a great set of shows. I got a picture of the setlist which I will upload as well. The soundboard and lights were upstairs and we were right behind them near end of the show and they were really cool. OAR never dissapoints and this was a serious set list. Of course some of my favorites were missing but they really dug deep into the catalogue played limited songs from King and certainly provided a night to remember.
