Just outside the city, someday last July
Girl's name was Brandy but they called her Caroline
No one even knew her history,
Said she came from somewhere in the (mumble),
but it seemed like she was coming straight for me

I was playing nine-ball with two guys I knew from work.
Junkie fuckin' local starts acting like a jerk
I saw him put his hands up Brandy's skirt
I don't know what happened next in retrospect
I lost my head and kinda went bizzerk

By the time they pulled me off him
I was almost comin' to
Bleeding at the knuckles,
she said nice to meet you, the cops will probably be here in a flash
Hailed a cab, we both got in and watched that taxi driver slam his foot down on the gas

Next few months was we spent a lot of time up in the room
Laughed lots and we drank a lot
We tried to shoot the moon
In the morning time she'd always disappear
But I agreed, I'd never asked no questions with the chance of answers I don't wanna hear

(*mumbles*) stoop outside my place
She tried to hide it, every sadness on her face

She said perhaps you'd drop this package off, though I would hate to inconvenience you

I knew I shouldn't do it, but I put it from my mind
